The Other Side
2025. Stained glass, mirror, came, 30 × 30 cm
The Other Side is a work that presents the beauty created by light—and the darker traces it leaves behind—through a pair of circular panels. The panel made of warm-toned glass layers gentle colors to produce rich patterns of light and shadow, holding the outward beauty we readily see. In contrast, the achromatic panel joins opaque glass fragments without neatly matching them, exposing the gaps and discomfort of a surface forced into place. Within the same circle, the two panels absorb and reflect light, asking what the beauty we choose might be concealing. The mirror placed at the center of the achromatic panel turns that “other side” into not someone else’s issue but my own, making us confront the shadow behind the convenience and beauty shaped by our desires
이면
이면은 빛이 만들어내는 아름다움과 그 뒤에 남는 어두운 흔적을 한 쌍의 원형 패널로 표현한 작품이다. 난색 유리로 만든 패널은 따뜻한 색들이 겹치며 풍성한 빛그림자를 만들어 겉으로 보이는 아름다움을 담고, 무채색 패널은 불투명 유리 조각을 서로 맞지 않게 이어 붙여 억지로 맞춘 표면의 틈과 불편함을 드러낸다. 두 패널은 같은 원 안에서 빛을 흡수하고 반사하며, 우리가 선택한 아름다움이 무엇을 가리고 있는지 묻는다. 무채색 패널의 중앙에 위치한 거울은 그 이면을 타자가 아닌 나의 문제로 돌려, 우리의 욕망이 만든 편리함과 아름다움 뒤의 그늘을 직접 마주하게 한다.
