The work initially set out to address a theme of negative desire—wanting to see only what one intends to see. From there, it traced the desires of those who seek to consume “tradition” in Jeonju, while also attempting to hold alongside it the present we live in: a modern era filled with towering buildings. As today’s society has become layered with diverse ways of thinking, values, and perspectives, I came to see more clearly that each person also differs in how they accept and receive them. This shift led me to the thought that we have reached a time in which such desire cannot be defined as purely negative. The work became a process of recording that very change.

처음 작품의 의도는 ‘보려고 하는 것만 보고자 하는’ 부정적인 욕망이라는 주제를 다루는 데 있었다. 그래서 전주라는 전통을 소비하고자 하는 사람들의 욕망을 그려내고, 동시에 우리가 살아가는 시대가 기라성 같은 건물들이 솟아 있는 현대임을 함께 담아내고자 했다. 다만 오늘날의 현대에 이르러서는 다양한 사고방식과 가치관, 관념이 중첩된 사회가 되었고, 이를 받아들이고 수용하는 방식 또한 사람마다 다르다는 점을 더 분명히 보게 되었다. 그 결과 이 욕망을 반드시 부정적인 것으로만 규정할 수 없는 시대에 도달했다는 생각의 변화가 생겼고, 이 작업은 그 변화 자체를 기록하는 과정이 되었다.
