This work was inspired by the visual experience of positive and negative afterimages formed on the retina after gazing at the intense summer sun. It seeks to capture both the fleeting memory of light that lingers immediately after encountering a brilliant glow and the vibrant waves of color that emerge in the darkness when the eyes are closed.
The work is an attempt to transform these deeply personal and subjective afterimages—created by the human visual system—into a three-dimensional form through the transparent medium of glass and the interplay of light. By materializing an intangible visual phenomenon, it explores the boundary between perception, memory, and light.
잔상
한여름의 강렬한 태양을 바라보았을 때 망막에 맺히는 양성잔상과 음성잔상(Afterimage)의 시각적 경험에서 영감을 받았다. 강한 빛을 마주한 직후 찰나로 스쳐 가는 빛의 기억과, 눈을 감은 뒤 어둠 속에서 피어오르는 다채로운 색채의 일렁임을 포착하고자 했다. 본 작품은 인간의 감각 기관이 만들어낸 지극히 개인적이고 주관적인 빛의 잔상을 투명한 유리 매체와 조명의 빛을 통해 입체적인 조형물로 시각화한 시도이다.
